About Women Writing for (a) Change:

Located in Silverton, Women Writing for (a) Change® provides a safe and non-competitive environment for individuals to develop their writing skills, cultivate their creativity, and strengthen their voices.  At WWf(a)C, our writers, whether first-timers or the more experienced, find community, connection, and meaningful conversation within our writing circles.

WWf(a)C was founded by Mary Pierce Brosmer in 1991, to encourage women and girls to find their voices, speak their truths and tell their stories in a world in which they were often silenced.  Through the years, WWf(a)C class offerings have grown in response to demand. WWf(a)C has expanded and deepened its reach and offerings, while staying true to the original vision and values.

We offer writing circles and community events for Adult Women as well as All Gender options, with series classes ranging from 6-14 weeks, as well as one-off specialty classes. For youth, we offer programming specifically for Grades 4-6, Grades 7-9, and Grades 10-12, including weeklong summer camps. For more information, or to register, visit us here.

WWf(a)C Facilitator- Karen Novak is a four-time published novelist, writing teacher, practiced facilitator, and graduate of the Conscious Feminine Leadership Academy. She writes: My experience with this topic has been “on the job” training. Having a disability in my back from scoliosis as well as a complexity of other health realities to deal with, I have learned that the secret to seeing my life as a beautiful thing unfolding was to be part of something larger. My sense of community at Women Writing brings me joy and sustains me in difficult times. My writing skills have grown exponentially while here. If you have questions or want further information, contact Karen Novak.

Café Alma: Celebrating their one year anniversary

Café Alma came to fruition through a shared love of community and food. The owners, Lainey and Yair Richler encourage the habit of healthy eating and living a well-balanced lifestyle through a Mediterranean Diet. Café Alma aspires to be the place people come to for a meal and feel good about what they are eating. The Richlers hope their cafe can feel like a home away from home— where one can sit for hours with a friend, offer a comfortable space for those that work remotely, or be the first choice for special occasions.

Every dish on the menu is filled with color and flavor, with hopes that customers will come back time after time to make their way through the menu. Some of Café Alma’s staple dishes consist of: Alma’s Classic Shakshuka, Rosewater Pistachio Waffle, and the Sun Dried Tomato Benedict. When discussing their menu, Yair Richler said: “We’re focusing on a different vibe with comfort foods that people are familiar with and love, but with our own little twist on it.”

Café Alma is Cincinnati’s first Mediterranean cafe serving breakfast, brunch, and lunch all day. Reservations for groups of 6 or more are needed, waitlist is recommended for 5 or less and can be found through their website.

Freedom to Travel!

With the new year comes the new potential for travel. Americans are able to move past the restrictions of the last three years.  International travel, bucket list destinations, sustainable travel plans and more are dominating the travel scene.  This trend is not about to change, and popular destinations are making it so easy to move around the world. Entry restrictions have been eliminated or restructured to make it more convenient for all travelers.  Many countries such as Mexico and Jamaica have streamlined the procedure with no paperwork, no online forms, no health questionnaires, and rapid kiosk check points.

Global Entry is an absolute must, and it includes TSA pre-check.  Now at most US entry points, it’s a simple glance at a screen and a waive to the customs agent as you head directly to baggage claim.  No passport, no paper, just your pretty face.  Domestically I highly recommend Clear as well and all you need there is your boarding pass and your pretty face to go through security.  If you have TSA pre-check you move even faster.

Here’s more exciting news for those seeking to travel abroad. Passport renewals have been a nightmare with this insurgence of international travel but soon that will also be easier.  After years of processing delays and office closure during the pandemic the U.S. Passport Agency is make some big changes. An online passport renewal portal will be launched for the general public this year.  This great news for the convenience but it will take awhile to obtain your passport.  Expediting with an upcoming trip noted in the application will speed up the process and well worth the extra dollars.

Plan a trip. Take a vacation. Explore the world!
